Assam represents India as one of the states with peaceful settings of breath
taking scenic beauty, rarest flora and fauna, mighty waterways of Brahmaputra
river, vast rolling plains, lofty green hills, and a land of fairs and festivals.
Assam with Guwahati as its state capital, is bordered by Bhutan in the north
and Arunachal Pradesh in the east, Nagaland and Manipur in the south and
Mizoram and Meghalaya in southwest, and Bengal to the west.
The places of tourist interest are Kamakhya temple, Anthropological Museum,
state and forest museum, cottage industries museum at Guwahati; Umananda
temple at Peacock Island, Hindu-Muslim-Buddhist shrines at Hajo, and temples
and shrines at Sibsagar.For the wildlife enthusiasts, the Kaziranga National
Park is most famous for great Indian one-horned rhinoceros which can be
watched from close on an elephant ride. The other wild habitants of the
park are elephants, tigers, nilgai, leopards, wild boar, civet cat, swamp
deer, hog deer, python, sambar, etc., and a great variety of bird life lead
by breeding place for pelican.
There is also Manas Wildlife Sanctuary where one encounters tiger, elephants,
rhinos, golden langur, sambar, wild buffalo, swamp deer, swamp deer, hog
deer, pygmy hog.
