Chennai (Madras)

Chennai or Madras is located on the stretch of the Coromandel Coast. Popularly
regarded as the ‘Gateway to the South’, it is the fourth largest metropolis
in India. The waterways of Cooum and Adyar and the Buckingham Canal trisect
the city. Chennai presents culture that is distinctly different from that
of northern India. Though Chennai has made much industrial progress, the
basic traditions and culture in classical Music, dance and all other art
forms, vividly in contrast to the modernity of today, remain firmly intertwined
is a pleasant surprise.
Most of the original inhabitants are Brahmins and vegetarians at core. The
architecture of the ancient temples, churches and modern high-rise is a
blending dexterity. The distinctiveness is displayed in two magnificent
temples at Triplicane and Mylapore. The metropolis of today has modern beaches
including most famous Marina Beach, parks, discos and even sanctuaries in
the heart of the City.
