Indore

Indore is the most important, bustling and vibrant business centre of Madhya
Pradesh. It is situated on the banks of river Saraswati and Kahn that unite
at the centre of the city. Rani Ahilyabai, the brave Holkar queen, built
the city of Indore. It lies to the extreme west of Madhya Pradesh on the
banks of the rivers Saraswati and Kahn that unite at the centre of the city.
Indore derives its name from Indreshwar temple that was built in 18th century.
The stream of Holkars began in 1693 with the birth of Malhar Rao Holkar.
He grew up with all the qualities of a brave soldier and leader. This earned
him the gift of Indore territory from Peshwa. The transfer of dynastic rule
to his grand son was short lived. His mother, Maharani Ahilyabai ascended
the throne, and became extraordinary Maratha woman ruler of India. Under
her excellent guidance, people and the entire region prospered.
