Mandu

Mandu is situated at an altitude of 2,000 feet in the Vindhya ranges. The
spirit that pervaded was gaiety and joy. It was founded as fort capital
of Parmar rulers of Malwa. The later rulers continued with the spirit in
building the exquisite palaces like the Jahaz and Hindola Mahals. These
structures encompassed ornamental canals, baths and pavilions, as graceful
and refined as elsewhere during those times.
The gems of architectural structures include the massive Jama Masjid and
Hoshang Shah's tomb. Even Taj Mahal built centuries later draws inspiration
from here. Mandu is a celebration all round with stories of the love of
the poet-prince Baz Bahadur for his beautiful consort, Rani Roopmati. The
Pavillion and Palace of the two are in awe even today.
