Rameshwaram

Rameshwaram is a small island located off the eastern coast in Tamil Nadu.
Rameswaram has beautiful beaches to offer. Rameswaram is major Hindu pilgrimages
center with temples the finest example of Dravidian architecture. The intricate
carvings on the temples are to be cherished throughout life. The pillars
and corridors of the temples are known for their beauty. These corridors
are among the largest to be found in any temple in India.
According to Hindus that Lord Rama performed thanksgiving rituals to Lord
Shiva for his Victory over the demon king Ravana. This makes the place coveted
by both Vaishnavites and Shivites.
Ramanatha Swamy Temple
The temple was built after 12th century onwards by many rulers. It Foremost
in Dravidian architecture, the corridor of this temple is the largest in
India.

Close to the Ramanathaswamy temple, the sea is very cool and calm where
people take bath which is considered most sacred.
The Gandamadana Parvatham
It is situated on the highest point in the Island. Here, the imprint of
Lord Rama's feet is placed on a chakra.

Dhanushkodi temple is adorned by the icons of Rama, Sita, Lakshmana, Hanuman
and Vibishana.
Ramanathapuram
This is an ancient town. It is from here that the Sethupathis ruled. The
tomb of Thayumana Swamigal, a philosopher saint, is worth visiting.
Uthirakosamangai
18 kms from the city there is an ancient Siva temple where the deity is
carved in Emerald. 'Arudhra' festival held annually in December attracts
a large number of tourists.
Tirupullani
A Vishnu temple dedicated to Lord Adi Jaganathaperumal.
Erwadi
Muslims from India as well as abroad visit the tomb of Ibrahim Syed Aulia.
The annual festival in honour of this Saint takes place in December. 24
kms from Rameswaram.
