Sariska
larger at 800 sq km enjoys similar topography as that of Ranthambhor. It
falls in the Alwar district, and at one time used to be the hunting ground
for its Maharaja. The Aravalli hill range with its cliffs and long narrow
forested valleys provides the landscape. Sariska climate drifts to extremes
in summer and windy and harsh in winter.
The expectations of success in tiger and leopard sightings bring the guests
and fans to this National Park. This arid forests Park also boasts of other
permanent wildlife residents like jungle cat, wild boar, blue bulls, sambar,
hyenas, jackals, chital, as also Rhesus monkeys and langurs around Talvriksha.
The free game of wildlife is often at display around the several natural
waterholes besides artificial waterbodies created by the forest authorities.
For the ornithologists and birding enthusiasts, the natural surroundings
of Sariska draw the migratory birds from Siberia and China. It is quite
a mingling of horned owl, tree pie, grey partridge, woodpecker, peafowl,
crested serpent eagle, bush quail, sand grouse.
Pavilions and Temples devastated old gardens and ruins of monuments within
Sariska offer mute testimony to its grandeur and glorious past. The medieval
hilltop Kankwadi Fort within the precincts has a long and turbulent history.
Safaris are provided by jeep.
