Thanjavur

Thanjavur is known as the center of learning and culture. The university is devoted to the growth of Tamil literature and language. Thanjavur is known as the ‘Rice Bowl’ of Tamil Nadu. It is famous for the origin of musical instruments relevant to south India, besides other handicrafts.

Thanjavur saw the thriving of many art forms with temple in Chola architecture in Sri Brihadeeswara, the palace near the temple, an art gallery of palace with a number of granite and bronze statues, besides the Schwartz Church and Sivaganga Tank.
