Uttaranchal
Uttaranchal lies in the heart of
Himalayan
mountain ranges. It is only a nascent state formed late in the
year 2000. The city of
Dehradun was been declared as
the capital of the new state. The awesome charm and beauty of the state
lies in its hills. It forms almost 88 percent. It shares borders with
Himachal Pradesh in the northwest and Uttar Pradesh in the south, and
Nepal and China as international company.
Uttaranchal, the
abode of Gods, is blessed with magnificent glaciers,
sparkling and joyful rivers, gigantic and ecstatic Himalayan
peaks,
natural biospheres, and valley of flowers,
skiing slopes and dense
forests. The land has always been the source of inspiration for nature lovers
and seekers of peace and spirituality.
There are many shrines and places of
pilgrimage. The four most sacred
and revered
Char-Dham Hindu temples:
Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri
and Yamunotri are nestled in the Mighty Mountains. This is the land
where Vedas and Shastras were composed and great Indian epic of Mahabharata
was written.
Geographical formation encompasses districts like Almora, Pauri Garhwal,
Tehri Garhwal, Bageshwar, Chamoli, Haridwar, Champawat, Nainital, Dehradun,
Udham Singh Nagar, Uttarkashi, Pithoragarh, and Rudraprayag.

The
famous peaks of Uttaranchal are Nanda Devi, Kedarnath, Bandarpunch,
Mount Kamet and Trishul. The major Glaciers include Gangotri, Pindari, Milam
and Khatling. The principal rivers are Ganga, The Yamuna, Ramganga and Sharda.
The riches of forests and wildlife can be witnessed at almost twelve sites:
Nanda Devi national park, Gangotri national park, Kedarnath sanctuary,
Sanadi sanctuary, the valley of flowers, Ascod musk deer sanctuary, Govind
national park, Rajaji national park, Govind sanctuary, Mussoorie sanctuary,
and Binsar sanctuary.
The state is rich with its horticulture produce of apple, orange, malta,
pear, grapes, peach, plum, appricot, litchi, mango, guava etc. are widely
produced fruits. The region also holds good promises for developing herbal
pharmaceutical industry owing to abundant medicinal plants.
