Vadodara

Vadodara is one of the most important cities in Gujarat. It is situated
on the banks of the river Vishwamitri (whose name is derived from the great
saint Rishi Vishwamitra). Its history can be traced to 2000 years. The Mughals
rule over the city ended by the middle of 18th century. But most of the
chronological events relate to recent centuries. The latest of the rulers
is Sayaji Rao Gaekwad III.
The places of interest in the city includes Baroda Museum, Laxmi Vilas Palace,
Sayajibag, Nazarbagh Palace, Makarpura Palace, Pratap Vilas Palace at Lalbag,
Maharaja Fatehsingh Museum, Kirti Mandir, and Tambekarwada. The places in
the vicinity are Shiva Temple at Kayavaroham, Juma Masjid and Shaha-ki-Masjid
at Pavagarh, palaces and a majestic fort at Rajpipla, and Vishnu Temple
at Shukaltirth.
Vadodara is today an important business and industrial city.
